Tata Group Plans Chip And Battery Factory Construction In Gujarat

The expansion in Sanand has been undertaken to meet the growing demand for EVs

The Tata Group, led by Chairman N Chandrasekaran, plans to build a sizable semiconductor plant in Dholera, Gujarat and expects to start producing semiconductors there in 2024. The conglomerate is presently nearing the finish of the plant’s discussions and Chandrasekaran, during his speech at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit, confirmed that this significant semiconductor fab would soon be announced. In addition, Tata Group is preparing to start building a 20 gigawatt lithium-ion storage battery factory in Sananda city in the next two months as part of a calculated effort to increase the region’s exposure to its electric vehicle technology.

Driven by the growing demand for electric vehicles, Chandrasekaran highlighted the group’s considerable commitment to Sanand and highlighted the city’s growth as a hub for the group’s electric vehicle technology. The company is also producing C295 defence aircraft in Vadodara and it intends to eventually expand its manufacturing activities to Dholera.

The chairman said that the Indian Institute of Skills, a joint venture between the federal and state governments, will open its first phase in Gujarat by March 2024. Gujarat is seen by Tata Group as a key location for the expansion of advanced technology industries and corporate growth. Currently, 21 of the conglomerate’s enterprises are located in the state and employ over 50,000 people. The reason behind the group’s strong bond with Gujarat, according to Chandrasekaran, is that its founder was born and raised in Navsari.

In a statement acknowledging Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary leadership, Chandrasekaran praised Gujarat’s 20 years of steady and impressive success, noting that the state’s economic gains had made a substantial contribution to social development. Because of its natural advantages, he described Gujarat as a “gateway to the future” and emphasised the state’s significance for the group’s key economic ventures and upcoming technology projects in India.
