Textiles Ministry-Backed Chintan Shivir to Launch National Flag Recycling Initiative

A key highlight will be the launch of advanced textile recycling technology developed under NTTM and coordinated by IIT Delhi

The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), in partnership with the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) under the Ministry of Textiles, is set to organise a high-level Chintan Shivir on Friday in Panipat, aimed at accelerating India’s technical textiles ecosystem through advanced recycling technologies, industry collaboration and capacity building.

Themed “Panipat’s Textile Industry’s Technical Transformation: High Value, Better Tomorrow,” the deliberation camp seeks to reinforce Panipat’s position as a major hub for technical textile manufacturing and exports in line with India’s Vision 2047 growth goals.

The event will bring together senior policymakers and experts from the Ministry of Textiles, NITRA, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), IIT Delhi, IIT Mandi, financial institutions, industry bodies and manufacturers. Officials said the Shivir will highlight government-backed support for entrepreneurs through NTTM schemes, including funding, compliance facilitation and technology access.

A key highlight will be the launch of advanced textile recycling technology developed under NTTM and coordinated by IIT Delhi. The Atal Center of Textile Recycling and Sustainability, established in Panipat under IIT Delhi’s leadership, has achieved significant breakthroughs in sustainable textile innovation, high-performance waste recycling and prototyping support for startups.

The Shivir will also mark the official launch of the National Flag Recycling Initiative, undertaken by the Sewaj Neesim Foundation. The initiative enables respectful and responsible recycling of retired Indian national flags using advanced material recovery processes. IIT Delhi has completed a full technology transfer for this specialised process to the Foundation.

In addition, the Centre will showcase its Aramid Fiber Recycling Programme, demonstrating technology solutions to process and repurpose high-performance aramid waste—benefiting manufacturers across India’s technical textiles value chain.
