Twin Earthquakes’ Hit Himachal’s Chamba, No Damage Reported

Officials confirmed there were no reports of casualties or damage to property

Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district was jolted by two mild earthquakes within a span of just over an hour early Wednesday, even as the state continues to grapple with monsoon-triggered landslides and road blockages.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the first tremor occurred at 3.27 a.m. with a magnitude of 3.3 at a depth of 20 km (epicentre: 32.87°N, 76.09°E). The second, stronger quake followed at 4.39 a.m., registering 4.0 magnitude at a depth of 10 km (epicentre: 32.71°N, 76.11°E).
Local residents reported feeling tremors, sparking momentary anxiety given the region’s seismic vulnerability.

However, officials confirmed there were no reports of casualties or damage to property. Both tremors were classified as mild, and the district remains safe, the NCS said.

The earthquakes come as Himachal Pradesh faces intense monsoon disruption, including landslides, cloudbursts and blocked highways. While the cumulative impact of the monsoon has been severe, Wednesday’s tremors did not add to the state’s damage tally.
