Union Minister Pralhad Joshi Visits World’s Largest Integrated Renewable Energy Project In Andhra Pradesh

Greenko’s USD 4.2 billion Pinnapuram project set to transform India’s green energy landscape with 6.68 GW capacity and 10 GWh daily storage
In a significant endorsement of India’s renewable energy ambitions, Hon’ble Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy & Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Shri Pralhad Joshi, visited Greenko’s flagship Integrated Renewable Energy Storage Project (IRESP) in Pinnapuram on Friday.
The minister lauded the scale and pace of the pioneering project, which is the world’s first and largest gigawatt-scale renewable energy generation and storage facility. Combining 4,000 MW of solar, 1,000 MW of wind, and 1,680 MW of pumped hydropower capacity, the project boasts an impressive energy storage potential of 10,080 MWh per cycle. Designed to supply dispatchable, carbon-free energy, the project will support hard-to-abate sectors like green steel, green aluminum, and green hydrogen production.
“Seeing the world’s largest integrated renewable energy storage project in action, here in Andhra Pradesh, is a matter of immense pride,” Shri Pralhad Joshi remarked. “It highlights India’s enormous potential in green energy under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I commend the proactive and supportive policies of the Andhra Pradesh government under Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu ji.”
Mr. Anil Chalamalasetty, Group CEO & MD of Greenko, welcomed the Minister and led a comprehensive tour of the facility. He emphasized that the project will play a vital role in India’s energy transition and support global decarbonization efforts. “This development will avoid 3.3 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually and catalyze regional economic growth through job creation and industrial development,” Mr. Anil noted.
The USD 4.2 billion project — with USD 1.2 billion allocated to the pumped storage component and USD 3 billion for solar and wind infrastructure — is a strategic solution to renewable energy intermittency, ensuring reliable and on-demand power delivery. The Pinnapuram facility also forms a critical part of Greenko’s broader initiative to build over 100 GWh of pumped hydro storage capacity across India, effectively creating a cloud-based intelligent energy storage platform.
The visiting dignitaries were also introduced to Greenko’s Intelligent Renewable Energy Cloud Storage Platform, which synergizes with India’s “One Nation, One Grid” policy to deliver some of the world’s lowest-cost green molecules — a key enabler of sustainable industrial growth.
As India races toward its clean energy targets, the Pinnapuram IRESP stands out as a landmark achievement — a testament to India’s innovation and leadership in the global renewable energy transition.
