UP Crosses 3 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations, Adds 1,038 MW Capacity

State Emerges Among India’s Leading Solar Markets With Strong Rural Uptake

Uttar Pradesh has crossed the landmark of three lakh rooftop solar installations, recording a total of 3,00,654 completed systems and an installed capacity of 1,038.27 MW. This places the state among India’s top performers in the rooftop segment, behind Gujarat and Maharashtra, and marks a decisive moment in its shift toward cleaner energy.

Government data show that 9,83,915 applications have been received so far, with more than three lakh installations already supplying affordable electricity to households across rural and urban regions. Officials said the growth reflects a consistent push over the past eight years to expand solar adoption under schemes such as the PM Surya Ghar Yojana and the state’s updated solar policy.

The state government has focused on dependable infrastructure, digital monitoring and clearer procedures to encourage household participation. Energy specialists note that the rising capacity is easing pressure on the grid while opening new opportunities for domestic, agricultural and industrial users.
Rural districts have recorded some of the clearest benefits. Households have seen marked reductions in monthly electricity bills, and many are now selling excess power back to the grid. The model has increased local income while improving energy access in areas that traditionally faced supply challenges, and demand for new connections continues to climb.

Officials point out that the achievement reflects the administration’s emphasis on speed and transparency in renewable energy deployment. The milestone of three lakh rooftop systems has become a marker of the state’s broader progress toward energy security, economic empowerment and environmental stewardship.
With rising demand and expanding grid-integration opportunities, Uttar Pradesh is poised to play a stronger role in India’s renewable energy future.
