Vedanta Pledges Rs 30 Crore For Wildlife Conservation Across India

Through Taco’s ‘Mission Vanraksha,’ Vedanta is expanding its conservation footprint across multiple states

Vedanta has committed Rs 30 crore over three years for wildlife and biodiversity conservation under its flagship initiative, The Animal Care Organisation (Taco). The decision made on National Wildlife Day, underlines the company’s growing focus on ecological stewardship alongside its core business in critical minerals, energy transition metals, and oil and gas.

Through Taco’s ‘Mission Vanraksha,’ Vedanta is expanding its conservation footprint across multiple states. At Rajasthan’s Ramgarh Vishdhari Tiger Reserve, the company has commissioned five solar-powered anti-poaching camps and deployed surveillance vehicles for round-the-clock patrolling. In Assam’s Kaziranga National Park, it is setting up a surveillance centre and staff housing to strengthen protection for rhinos, elephants, and tigers.

Vedanta subsidiaries are running habitat restoration projects nationwide. Hindustan Zinc is rejuvenating 400 hectares at the Baghdarrah Crocodile Conservation Reserve in Rajasthan, while Cairn Oil and Gas is stewarding 86 acres of mangroves in Andhra Pradesh, home to endangered species such as fishing cats. In Goa, Sesa Goa has restored the 203-hectare Sanquelim Mines with more than 750,000 trees, while Vedanta Aluminium’s Butterfly and Avian Parks in Odisha have created new urban biodiversity pockets.

Since FY21, Vedanta has planted over three million trees and aims to reach seven million by 2030, aligning with the World Economic Forum’s Trillion Tree initiative. The company says its integrated approach, combining afforestation, species protection, and community engagement, supports India’s National Biodiversity Mission and global climate commitments.
