WEF Recognises Tata Power Subsidiary TPRMG As People-Positive Accelerator Of Clean Energy Adoption

The report emphasises the significance of a people-positive approach as a pivotal factor in accelerating the transition to clean power while delivering broader social, economic, and environmental value

The World Economic Forum report “Using a People-Positive Approach to Accelerate the Scale-up of Clean Power: A C-Suite Guide for Community Engagement” highlights TP Renewable Microgrid (TPRMG), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, for its creative Renewable Microgrid initiative. At the recently finished 28 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 28), this report was released.

The report underscores the importance of adopting a people-positive approach as a critical element in expediting the shift to clean power while yielding wider social, economic, and environmental benefits. It also points out the need to involve communities in the transition towards sustainable energy to guarantee that the transition is advantageous to all parties involved.

India’s rural areas now have access to clean electricity thanks in large part to TPRMG. About 300,000 people have benefited from the project’s successful commissioning of renewable microgrids in 200 villages in northwest India. These microgrids, which supply roughly 21,000 customers, have lowered more than 8,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide and saved more than 3 million gallons of fuel per year.

The project’s methodology is based on the production of shared value, with a particular emphasis on community involvement. Through partnerships with a range of stakeholders, including as governments, social media influencers, local communities, and IT innovators, TP Renewable Microgrid has created solutions tailored to the unique requirements of each community. This cooperative effort has greatly benefited the local communities on an economic, environmental, and social level in addition to facilitating the smooth installation, operation, and maintenance of projects.

The white paper’s use of the TP Renewable Microgrid as a case study supports Tata Power’s efforts to promote sustainable development in rural India and highlights the company’s proficiency in using cross-sectoral cooperation. This strategy supports the paper’s focus on community partnerships by demonstrating how business executives can collaborate with locals to achieve shared goals.

It demonstrates how the TP Renewable Microgrid is fostering socioeconomic growth in rural India by establishing an ecosystem in addition to supplying clean energy. This effort demonstrates how the power sector can offer dependable and clean power to communities that have historically relied on fossil fuel-based power. It also corresponds with India’s larger goal of shifting to sustainable, community-focused, and reliable energy solutions.
