Zomato Rolls Out EV Rental Fleet For Delivery Partners In Delhi

In a significant push towards cleaner last-mile logistics, food delivery platform Zomato has launched a rental electric vehicle (EV) bike fleet in the national capital. The initiative, flagged off on World Environment Day, aims to make two-wheeler EVs accessible to its delivery partners and marks the company’s latest move towards its goal of 100 per cent EV-based deliveries by 2030.
The pilot rollout in Delhi introduces 300 electric bikes and was inaugurated by Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic Management Division (Zone II), Delhi Police.
Boosting EV Access and Climate Goals
With this EV rental model, Zomato aims to demonstrate the operational and financial benefits of EVs over traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes.
“As of March 2025, we had over 37,000 active EV-based delivery partners,” the company said in a statement. “Their efforts helped avoid 4,900 tonnes of carbon emissions in FY25, equivalent to planting approximately 2.2 lakh trees.” This initiative is part of Zomato’s broader sustainability goals, which include net zero emissions across its food delivery value chain by 2033. The company’s 2030 roadmap is anchored in eight themes such as climate-conscious deliveries, a waste-free world, zero hunger, and inclusive growth.
“Making Green Mobility Accessible”
Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Eternal, Zomato’s ESG advisory arm, said the initiative would help democratise access to sustainable mobility for gig workers.
“Making sustainable mobility accessible to our delivery partners is critical to our mission of ‘better food for more people’. With these specially designed EVs on rent, we’re enabling them to thrive economically while contributing to a greener tomorrow,” she said.
Voices From the Ground
Ajay Chaudhary, IPS, lauded the private sector’s role in Delhi’s clean air transition. “Among various pollution mitigation steps in Delhi, it is imperative industries take extra measures to adopt sustainability,” he said. “Zomato’s EV fleet rental effort shows how businesses can empower workers while advancing public goals.”
For delivery partners like Saroj Raout, who has been with Zomato for two years, the switch was overdue. “I have wanted to shift to an EV for some time. With affordable rentals now available, it will help me cut fuel costs, potentially increase earnings, and do my bit for the planet,” he said.
Delhi First, India Next
While the launch is currently limited to the Delhi-NCR region, Zomato plans to scale the rental fleet to other Indian cities depending on partner response. The effort also aligns with the Delhi Government’s ambition to position the city as the EV Capital of India.
